I interrupt the Peru trip to bring you goat yoga in Jacksonville, FL!
There is an acre farm is town that is filled with funny goats and chickens. It’s called Little Peeps Farmer for A Day. They offer morning Goat Yoga on weekends during the spring and summer. There are about 15 slots open per session, so they tend to fill up quick at $25 per person. Click picture above for tickets!
We arrived at Little Peeps Farm a few minutes early, at 8:20am, to get familiar with our surroundings, and greet the instructor and farm owner. It had rained the week leading up to our yoga session, so the farm had some muddy spots, but nothing we couldn’t walk around. It was a cool, windy morning but that didn’t stop us from getting our goat yoga on! Right away we were introduced to the goats and learned there were a few babies born 3 weeks earlier. They were adorable and jumping all over the place for free pets and attention.
A goat that was kept inside last year was super jealous of the babies and took up residence with me and Sam. She kept head budding all the babies away so we shielded some of them so we could play!
Yoga poses were interesting with the goats crawling under you, rubbing against you, jumping on your back, and zipping/unzipping your jacket in plank poses….one is named Zippy for this reason, and she just loved my jacket! Since it was muddy, our mats got dirty and although we tried to stay clean, Sam got mud prints all over her back from the baby goat climbing all over her. It was totally worth it and just warranted a quick mat cleaning when we got home. Be warned, they will poop on your mat but again, just a quick cleaning and you’re good to go.
Chickens were also roaming around, making all sorts of noises. They reminded me of my new favorite quote, “as I’ve gotten older, I understand why roosters wake up and scream!” Our session ended about an hour after starting. At the end the goats had taken our mats as their personal lounge area. They just wanted a comfy mat in the sun and free attention! We hung out with them for a while then were on our way back home….to clean the mats, of course, then enjoy the rest of our Saturday.
If you’ve done goat yoga, did you have a similar experience? And where did you do it?
